Marriage Traditions in Poland

A old-fashioned Polish bride used to be a three or even four morning event. Generally, it was held outside in flowers, trees and stables. They were a celebration of life and the bounty of dynamics. Today, however, many couples choose to forgo the church and simply include a service in their apartment or backyard with close family and friends. They also enjoy the tremendous food, music and vodka but it’s not quite what it once was.

On the day of the bride, just before midnight ( or around it if a one- day marriage), comes the famous ceremony known as “oczepiny”, the opening of the bride. At this point, the veil is removed and she dons her czepek – a cover worn by Polish angels to reflect their standing as hitched women. This is also when the longer braids are unbraided and cut brief, as a symbol of her changeover from boyhood to woman.

As the pair leave the church, guests wash them with currencies and grains, to give them luck and prosperity. They subsequently change into their gathering outfits. It is also conventional to put smaller, circular coins into the couple’s locks– whoever collects the most will get in charge of their finances dating polish women.

The gathering begins, and you’ll discover a lot of dancing going on. Poles feel that this reduces the side effects of too much eating. There will be a lot of food overly, including lots of different types of cakes, snacks and ice cream.
